Khulna Medical College is a medical education institution located in Khulna city, Bangladesh. It was the first government medical college established in the Khulna Division. The institution was established in 1992 on 40.25 acres of land. Currently, it provides undergraduate medical education to approximately 900 students, along with postgraduate training programs. In addition, short term courses and training programs in various fields of medical science are also offered here.
In 1978 to 1979, the Government of Bangladesh planned to establish medical colleges in Khulna, Bogura, Comilla, Faridpur, Kushtia, and Noakhali with the aim of improving healthcare services in the country. According to the plan, medical college activities began in Khulna, Comilla, Pabna, and IPGMR in Dhaka during the 1980 to 1981 academic year. However, due to several challenges, the activities of these medical colleges were suspended, and the students were transferred to the eight existing medical colleges in the country.
Again, during 1991 to 1992, the government recognized the need to establish additional medical colleges and decided to establish five more institutions. As part of this initiative, five medical colleges were established in Khulna, Dinajpur, Bogura, Faridpur, and Comilla, with each college admitting 50 students.
